Both the movie and the book of the Hunger Games were really good. The movie was not exactly like the book, but it had many similarities and only some differences. I think that the book was better because it used better detail, had a good storyline, and it was one of my favorite novels I’ve ever read.
Some of my favorite parts of the book were the killings. The book added better detail and created a more graphic picture than the movie did. One kill that stood out was one of the first that occurred. When the girl lit a fire in the forest and the group led by Cato tried to attempt to kill her. They failed so they had to send Peeta back to finish her off; unlike how in the movie and they finished her off then and there. I really enjoyed the character Thresh from district 11, and his death was sad. Katniss took care of Thresh’s tribute partner, so Thresh returned the favor and saved Katniss’ life. When she was saved, she was trying to get a package to help save Peeta because he was dying. She wanted to save him not only because they were from the same district, but also because she was falling in love with him.
While Katniss went for the care package, she was snuck up on and thrown to the ground with a knife on her throat. This girl was about to kill Katniss, but this is when Thresh came to the rescue and saved Katniss. Thresh threw the other girl to the ground and beat her to death, and spared Katniss. Later on in the games, they released hungry savaged dogs because the games were going to slow. They hoped to speed it up by doing this. In the book, these savaged dogs got to Thresh and killed him. As soon as he died, a cannon went off to signify his death. In the movie though, Cato was the one to kill him. I was kind of excited to see Cato’s death come after all the bad he did.
Cato was the Antagonist, he leads and trained people their whole lives, including himself, to fight in the games. Peeta, Katniss, and Cato are the final three tributes in the book. Peeta and Katniss were chased by the dogs and they ran to the cornucopia. This is where weapons and shelter was and Cato was also there waiting for them. The fight is mostly between Peeta and Cato. In the end, Cato is thrown over the edge by Peeta. Cato is then pounced on-off by the savaged dogs.
In the book, Cato lays there for hours in pain and agony, screaming and suffering. The next morning he is finished off and relieved by Katniss shooting an arrow into his head. In the movie she doesn’t wait, she immediately killed him after they threw him off the edge. I actually liked the books ending and making him suffer because he was my least favorite character in the book/movie. Both the book and the movie were excellent. Normally I don’t like reading, but this was an exception and I actually liked the book more because of how detailed it was in comparison to the movie. Other than that, there weren’t too many differences, basically only the deaths of some of the characters.
